SCRL Brașov announces the commencement of static tests for the new
electric locomotive, which will later undergo comprehensive testing
at the Railway Testing Center in Făurei before being fully
operational. These tests aim to certify the technical solutions
related to the modernization and necessary adjustments for
commercial exploitation.
This locomotive is the first of the batch of 17 units financed
through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), with the
Brașov factory expected to complete the entire batch by the end of
2026. Work on the locomotive began in 2024, and its total
completion will occur following the successful conclusion of all
tests, including those involving the European Train Control System
(ETCS) supplied by Siemens.
The newly modernized locomotives represent a significant milestone
for the railway industry in Romania, particularly for SCRL Brașov,
as they are the first four-axle locomotives with modernized
asynchronous motors produced in Romania. Additionally, these
locomotives are the first of this type manufactured by the traction
system producer, Promat Craiova.
