For 55 years, InterCity has connected people, regions, and generations. With its unmistakable comfort, distinctive locomotives, and high-quality travel offerings, it has significantly shaped the history of long-distance rail travel in Germany. Many innovations that are now taken for granted in the ICE were once introduced with the InterCity and set standards for train travel in Germany.

In autumn 2026, a significant chapter in railway history will come to an end. Together, we would like to look back on 55 years of InterCity, honor special moments, and at the same time bid farewell to the Intercity 1, the series 101, and series 218 in long-distance traffic. For this purpose, the Intercity 1 will embark on a farewell tour starting September 25, 2026.

ROCO and FLEISCHMANN, in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn AG, are launching a specially designed commemorative locomotive that recalls this special moment and the farewell year.
