Steam locomotive, H0, T18, 078 164 DB, black, era IV, prototype
condition around 1971, LokSound, double smoke generator, shunting
coupling, DC/AC
You can certainly see from the photos that our T18 looks beautiful
and features different lanterns, feed pumps, piping, cab roofs, and
coal boxes depending on the era. What may not be immediately
recognizable in the images is a new function for ESU steam
locomotives involving cylinder steam. This occurred in the
prototype when condensate was expelled. Since cylinder steam does
not flow out in every driving situation for the original, our H0
model behaves accordingly. Of course, you can adjust this function
to your liking, as you are accustomed to from ESU. By the way, the
smoke visible in the photo did not need to be enhanced by an image
editing program.
Although some machines at DB were equipped with a push-pull control
system, the majority of locomotives were always positioned at the
front of the train, necessitating a repositioning of the locomotive
at the destination station. Therefore, we also supply our models
with digitally remote-controlled couplings. These work with the ESU
universal coupling 41000, but also with the Märklin short coupling,
as well as standard hook couplings.
As you know from other ESU traction vehicles, many
prototype-accurate light functions can be activated. Typically,
shunting is done with just a single headlight at both ends. In
darkness, the chassis and cab lighting assist the H0 personnel in
their work. Deep inside the metal frame, the powerful bell-armature
motor with flywheel operates, providing smooth driving
characteristics and prototype-accurate tractive effort, controlled
by the LokSound-5 decoder. By removing or attaching the slider and
pressing a switch in the locomotive's floor, you can switch between
two-rail and middle-rail operation.
