Real Vehicle Description:
The real Metropolitan Express Train, operated by German Railroad,
Inc. (DB AG), commenced service on August 1, 1999, providing luxury
travel between Hamburg and Cologne. The train set included two
Class 101 locomotives, numbered 101 130 and 131, capable of
reaching speeds up to 220 km/h (138 mph). Designed for comfort, the
train featured high-quality leather seating, wood paneling, and
amenities such as power sockets for each seat. The service aimed at
business travelers and included a Quiet Area where cell phone use
was prohibited. Despite its luxurious offerings, the service
struggled with profitability and was withdrawn in December 2004,
with the rolling stock later repurposed for IC service until its
final retirement in December 2021.
