Novelty 2026: The six-axle electric locomotives of class E 669.1
have proven themselves in heavy freight traffic for more than half
a century. They were developed from the two prototypes of class E
660.0, with the aim of avoiding freight trains previously operated
in double traction. Delivered by Škoda to the Czechoslovak State
Railways (?SD) in the early 1960s, the total of 150 units built
were used on the DC network in the north and east of the former
Czechoslovakia. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993,
the entire class, now designated 181, went to the new Czech
Railways (?D). Even today, five units remain in operation as helper
locomotives under ?D Cargo. Digitally switchable cab and engine
