Novelty 2025: The robust S499.02 locomotives were created in the
mid-1970s as a further development of the class S499.0. Apart from
the sides, which were decorated with a wide fan belt to cool the
transformer instead of the large windows, the locomotive body was
similar to that of the type E 469.3 direct current locomotives.
Between 1975 and 1981, 86 units were put into service at ČSD and
used in front of both freight and passenger trains. In the 1980s,
some of the locomotives were fitted with modern single-arm
pantographs and in 1988 they were redesignated as class 242.
