Freight car Gbgkks and Gbkkqs
The ČSD freight wagon fleet included a large proportion of covered
freight wagons designed for transporting general cargo and
alternatively for transporting bulk grain.
These cars were procured in various series and from different
manufacturers. Between 1983 and 1986, Vagónka n.p. in Česká Lípa
built a larger series of such cars, designed for a maximum speed of
100 km/h and a load capacity of 24 tons.
This series was designated type 112.0, and its classification is
Gbgkks.
A special feature of these cars is the ability to load loose grain
through hatches on the roof. A walkway on the roof also gives the
cars a distinctive appearance.
In 1986 / 1987, a series of express freight cars was derived from
this design. The equipment for grain transport was omitted and the
wagons were fitted with continuous lines for steam and electric
heating, allowing them to be used in passenger trains.
They were designated Gbkkqs and given the type number 115.3.
Another variant of these wagons are the mail cars Gbkkqs 116.0 of
the Czechoslovakian Post.
The cars of all three variants were divided between the Czech State
Railways and Slovak State Railways when the ČSD rolling stock was
split, and some are still in use today.
