Electric locomotive 194 178 in ocean blue beige of the DB, Era
IV.
Prototype condition around 1982, LokSound, pantograph drive,
DC/AC
The six-axle locomotives, often referred to as German crocodiles
due to their articulated three-part design, are now being
commemorated by ESU in H0.
• First ESU model of the rebuilt series
• 31124 with modified front ends, modified side walls, and new roof
equipment
The ESU model features a finely detailed metal body and front ends
also made of metal. Numerous separately applied parts made of metal
and plastic convey the powerful impression of the prototype in the
model. The epoch-appropriate differences between the locomotives
are naturally reflected in the metal chassis. Notable are the
different number of sandboxes, the reproduction of wooden and metal
steps on the roof, and of course the design of the lamps. It goes
without saying that the lamps are freestanding.
The delicate pantographs can be remotely controlled to raise and
lower individually from the central unit. The shunting lights
(single lamp on both sides) and the driver's cab lighting can be
switched separately.
A highlight of the Era IV locomotive is the start-up lights
retrofitted by the DB on the right side in the direction of travel
at the outer ends of the middle frame section, which can be
switched separately. The locomotive is also equipped with sensors
for situational sounds in curves, a LokSound V4.0 M4 decoder with
two speakers, and an energy storage unit that ensures safe
operation even on dirty tracks or long switch tracks.
Thanks to RailCom Plus functionality, the locomotive automatically
registers with compatible central units (e.g., ESU ECoS). The
proven universal electronics with plug slider and universal
wheelsets found in other ESU locomotives are also present in the
E94.
The LokSound decoder naturally reproduces the original sounds of
the E94. To ensure sufficient space for the speaker and its sound
capsule, each bogie contains a compact bell-armature motor with a
flywheel that drives two axles. Four traction tires ensure that the
locomotive delivers its power to the rails. For perfect current
collection, the middle axles are sprung.
