Novelty 2023: After 40 years of IC connections in Germany, the
rolling stock was a mixed bag. With the ""IC mod."" project, DB AG
wanted to put an end to this state of affairs and had some sample
conversions carried out from 2009. Starting in 2012, the series
conversion began in the Kassel, Neumünster and Nuremberg repair
workshops, whereby the coaches received new interior furnishings
according to ICE standard, new doors, air conditioning and wiring.
In contrast to the prototype, PIKO relies on a completely new
design for the modernised IC coaches. The vehicles have been
precisely realised in 1:87 scale and impress with the finest
engravings and flush-fitted windows. The interior design is highly
detailed and is in no way inferior to the prototype. The bogies are
also convincing with many details, such as individually attached
spring sets, magnetic brakes or brake disc reproductions on the
axles. A look underneath the car is also worthwhile. Machinery,
battery compartments and all supply lines have been reproduced with
great attention to detail. The second class carriage is of course
prepared for the uncomplicated retrofitting of interior lighting.
