The infrastructure department of FS, or RFI - Italian Railway Network, is equipped with three E402B electric locomotives that pull diagnostic trains to monitor the network condition. These are the units 101, 142, and 149.
After a major overhaul carried out in the workshops of Foligno, the E.402 142 was reintroduced into service in January 2021 in the new, striking yellow-blue livery that currently marks all diagnostic trains of RFI.
