The sleeping cars of type 1968 represent the first series of cars of this type built on the UIC-X platform for the FS; directly derived from the day UIC-X 1968 built simultaneously, they retain the same structure as the body but differ in the organization of the interior with 10 compartments for travelers plus 1 for the attendant, with 4 washbasins in addition to the 2 retracted ones. The first subseries of 92 cars was delivered between 1968 and 1970, characterized by 24AU bogies, type Blasluft Westklima and steam heating, followed immediately in 1970-71 by another subseries of 160 cars, which are identical to the first but without steam heating, completing the delivery in 1973 with a final subseries of 30 units equipped with MDFD bogies with disc brakes, which guaranteed better riding quality, and a Friedmann blow air system, similar to the day cars of the same series. Over the years, like all UIC-X cars, they underwent several modifications, such as the installation of new aluminum doors, folding steps, and other technical updates; the livery also changed over time, transitioning from the original slate gray to liver red, beige gray in the 80s, and XMPR in the 90s, the latter remaining until the end of the career, which took place around 2010 for this car series.
