Diesel multiple units series RGP2712 and car XR7714 of the SNCF, Era III - IV

The RGP 2 (Rames à Grand Parcours bimoteur) developed by the DEA (Division de Etudes Autorails) of the SNCF are equipped with two Renault engines of type 517, delivering 300 HP at 1500 revolutions per minute. This is the same engine type used in the X 3800 and X 2400 multiple units. Built from 1954 to 1955 in 20 units, the RGP2 consists of a motor car X 2700 and a trailer XR 7700 equipped with a driver's cab, forming a non-deformable unit in normal operation. The RGP2 can be coupled with each other and with the RGP1. They are painted in olive green and cream, which clearly distinguishes them from the red and cream livery of other delivered multiple units, earning them the nickname "green lizards." The fast and comfortable RGP2 are used on direct connections between major cities on long distances and on some international routes to Geneva, Cerbere, or Frankfurt. Less fast than the single-engine RGP1, which benefited from advancements in engine (825 HP MGO diesel engine) and transmission, the RGP2 gradually lost their use in many long-distance trains in favor of the RGP1. The RGP2 were gradually regrouped in Bordeaux and used in the less prestigious regional traffic before being withdrawn from commercial service in 1986. The front end of the power car is equipped with a dummy coupling and brake line hoses - The end of the trailer on the driver's cab side can be equipped with a bellows for connection to another multiple unit coupling.
