Electric locomotive CC 21003 of the SNCF, Era IV

This small series of 4 locomotives numbered CC 21001 to CC 21004 is a dual-current version of the SNCF locomotives CC 6500. They are assigned to the Dijon-Perrigny depot and are mainly used on the Paris-Dijon-Vallorbe axis to pull express and fast trains, including the Trans-European Express "Cisalpin." Like the CC 6500, they receive the "Grand Confort" livery in red and gray, highlighted by an orange stripe.

Delivered to the SNCF in 1974, CC 21003 participated in a test campaign in the United States of America in 1977 under the designation X 996 AMTRAK, during which the specific direct current equipment was removed. After testing and returning to France, the vehicle was restored to its original condition. In light of the competition from the TGV three-current trains Paris-Lausanne and Bern, the 4 locomotives of the CC 21000 type were definitively relieved of their 25 kV alternating current equipment between 1995 and 1996. On this occasion, they were renumbered to CC 6575 to CC 6578. These 4 locomotives were retired between 2005 and 2007.
