The RENFE Class 7900/279 The locomotives of Class 279 (formerly 7900) were the first electric locomotives from the large family of Japanese locomotives ordered by RENFE. This series of 16 units, procured between 1967 and 1968, was designed for operation on lines with different voltages, which is why they were equipped with dual voltage equipment allowing them to operate at both 1500 and 3000 V. Furthermore, they were versatile as they were suitable for both freight and passenger transport. The results were so good that the company subsequently placed several orders for similar locomotives, leading to the complete Classes 289 and 269.
