2018

The Swiss provider of combined transport Hupac Intermodal Ltd orders 8x Vectron freight locomotives from Siemens in June 2017. Built at the Siemens plant in Munich-Allach, the first units are delivered beginning early summer 2018.

These locomotives have an output of 6.4 MW and a top speed of 160 km/h. Intended for use on the Rhine-Alps corridor, the locomotives are configured for the railway systems in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands. Each locomotive is equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS), in addition to national train control systems.

Initially, 4x locomotives are intended for SBB Cargo International - SBBCI and 4x locomotives for BLS Cargo - BLSC.

After some initial testing and despite unit 193 492 receiving a SBB Cargo International design ( ), these units never entered regular service for the company and are rented to other European railway companies.

By the end of 2019, units 193 490, 492 & 493 are rented by Widmer Rail Services - WRS (see WRS Class 193 Vectron MS for more details).
