1967

When the Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB) have the opportunity in 1967 to buy 1x unit from the first batch of 50x Re 4/4II locomotives before delivery to the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS), they have the gear modified for higher traction and lower speed (125 km/h) for the steep routes managed by the company.

This unit is registered Re 4/4III 41.

1967 autumn

The unit is tested by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) on the Gotthard line and it was able to tow a convoy of 709 t on a ramp of 25‰ and in a 250 m radius curve without wheel slip.

1970

Following the successful tests of the Re 4/4III 41 locomotive on the Gotthard line, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) decide to order 20x units in this configuration, registered Re 4/4III 11351 - 11370.

1983

Between 1983 and 1985, the Swiss Southeastern Railway (SOB) acquires 3x Re 4/4III locomotives from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS).

These units are:
- Re 4/4III 11351, registered as Re 4/4III 44;
- Re 4/4III 11352, registered as Re 4/4III 42;
- Re 4/4III 11353, registered as Re 4/4III 43.

1994

Between 1994 and 1996, units Re 4/4III 41 - 44 are exchanged against 4x Re 4/4IV locomotives owned by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS).

After transfer, units Re 4/4III 42 - 44 retrieve their initial registration Re 4/4III 11351 - 11353 while unit Re 4/4III 41 receives registration Re 4/4III 11350.
