1999

These locomotives are a modernised version of Class 80 diesel hydraulic locomotives carried out at Faur in Bucarest (Romania) in collaboration with Alstom (France) and enter service from 1999 (initial contract signed in 1996).

Among others, they are equipped with a new Caterpillar engine, electric train heating generator, on-board computer and a new hydraulic transmission.

Technical details:
- Caterpilar CAT 3512 B diesel engine;
- power: 1 500 hp (1 104 kw);
- generator group for electric train heating: 400 kw;
- length: 13,7 m
- weight: 70 t;
- hydraulic transmission: Voith TH4;
- maximum speed: 100 km/h.

A total of 16x units are modernised. Initially intended exclusively for passenger traffic, 5x units (82-0505-6, 82-0513-0, 82-0534-6, 82-0543-7 and 82-0584-1) are transferred later on to the National Company for Railway Freight Transportation (CFR Marfă).
