All 25x units from this series are built by Swiss Locomotive and Machine Works (SLM) between 1898 and 1902:
- units 101 - 103 are built in 1898;
- units 104 - 112 are built in 1899;
- units 113 - 116 are built in 1900;
- units 117 - 120 are built in 1901;
- units 121 - 125 are built in 1902 (this batch is ordered by the Swiss Northeastern Railway but the delivery takes place after its integration to the Swiss Federal Railways).

The Swiss Northeastern Railway are integrated to the Swiss Federal Railways and all units from this series are transferred to the new entity where they are registered as A 2/4 151 - 175.
