1914

The 6x units from this series are delivered by the Hanomag factory in 1914.

Identical in appearance and external dimensions with the G 8.1 steam locomotives of the Prussian State Railway, there are some technical differences like the cylinder diameter of 500 mm instead of 600 mm (which resulted in a decrease in locomotive power) and the absence of the preheater.

At the end, it resulted a light version of the G 8.1 steam locomotive with an axle load of 16 t instead of 17 t.

The price paid at the time: 95.000 LEI / locomotive

1915

In 1915, 15x additional units are ordered that should have been registered 1537 - 1551.

But, as on August 28th, 1916, Germany declares war on Romania, the locomotives have never been delivered and are taken over by the Prussian State Railway where they will be registered as Essen 5726, Münster 5717 - 5726 and Elberfeld 5207 - 5210.

After the war, 30x locomotives of this type are received as war compensation, another 6x units join Romanian Railways fleet of steam locomotives shorty after (as there is no official documentation regarding these 6x units, it is not clear if they are also received or if they are acquired) and 76x new units are acquired between 1921 and 1922. The 112x steam locomotives received after the war will be registered as Class 40.001 - 112.

By 1933, units 1531 and 1536 are removed from service.

1938

The remaining 4x units (registration 1532 - 1535) are scrapped in 1938.
