40x units are built between 1946 and 1947 for express services
between the main cities.
1952
The further development of this series gave birth to Class 498.1 steam locomotives, the
highlight of steam locomotive construction in Czechoslovakia and
also throughout Europe.
1972
Only 4x units are still in use at the Plzeň depot.
1976
The last unit, registration 498.022, is removed from regular
service and is preserved as a museum locomotive.
