At the time, railway companies are gradually abandoning the dining car, both for economic and behavioural reasons: the set tables and the expensive menus are no longer as popular with business customers who, even when they travel by personal car, prefer a quick lunch in a rest area on the motorway. The French National Railway Company (SNCF) decided to follow the trend back in 1963, when a first classic restaurant coach is transformed for self-service and integrated into a travel agency train. Quickly four other cars are transformed in the same way and integrated into the commercial trains of the South-East in 1964.
