1980

Between 1980 and 1987, 44x units are delivered.

The last 12x units are delivered between 1987 and 1988 and are initially registered as A8 units. Almost identical with the A7 units except they had a telephone booth and space for an itinerant serving trolley. The A8 carriages are used on the City Express business trains but as these are soon replaced by the X2 trains, the extra equipment of the carriages becomes redundant and they are soon converted to A7 coaches.

NB: 8x units from this series, registered A7R, are equipped with ASEA bogies and receive a brighter, higher standard interior compared with the other A7 units.

1990s

Between 1994 and 1997, 3x units (registration numbers 5340, 5341 and 5343) are converted to B9 passenger coaches by TGOJ Malmö and Tillberga.

2001

In 2001, nine carriages are converted to A11 passenger coaches.

2009

During 2009/2010, 18x of SJ's A7 carriages are converted to B7.

After that, SJ only had 17x A7 wagons left. These are renovated in a similar way to other 1980s carriages in SJ's modernisation program, with, among other things, new lighting, electrical sockets, etc. The chairs, however, are kept but reupholstered.
