Introduction:
The GoldenPass Express (GPX), operated by MOB (Chemin de Fer Montreux Oberland Bernois), is a groundbreaking railway project connecting the picturesque Lake Geneva, the charming city of Gstaad, and the stunning Lake Thun and Lake Brienz at the northern foot of the Bernese Alps. The project, initiated in 2008, will finally see direct trains operating on the Montreux - Zweisimmen - Interlaken Ost route, bridging both 1,000 and 1,435 mm track gauges. All units are delivered between September 2020 and the end of 2021.

Coach details:
The Bsi 291 - 293 2nd class interface cars (length 18.9 m, tare 25.11 t), which are designed for a 1,435 mm gauge only, are coupled to the non-powered multiple units. The interface cars are necessary for mechanical coupling, as the couplings on the MOB vehicles are at a different height from the screw couplings and buffers on the BLS locomotive, and will also allow communication between the other GoldenPass Express (GPX) coaches and the Re 465 locomotive.

These interface cars are of the same design as the other coaches, so they do not imply a quality drop in travel comfort for passengers. In addition, this interface car (linked by a screw coupling to the Re 465 locomotive) is connected to the other coaches by an automatic coupling with an electric and pneumatic head.

Unique features:
These coaches are part of a cutting-edge train system that uses passenger cars with variable gauge bogies and a gauge changer installed at the Zweisimmen station.
The trains are hauled by MOB's Ge 4/4 locomotives on the Montreux - Zweisimmen section and BLS's Re 465 locomotives on the Zweisimmen - Interlaken section.
The coaches have been meticulously designed and manufactured by Stadler, with Pininfarina contributing to the end car design and Innova Design from UK working on interior and exterior elements.
Special bogies, developed by Alstom, ensure smooth and efficient operation on different track gauges.

Additional order:
In December 2021, MOB expanded its order to include low-floor second-class Bs 271 - 274 cars, enhancing accessibility for passengers with disabilities.
This investment has increased the total project cost to 89 million CHF, with contributions from the federal government and the cantons of Waadt, Bern, and Freiburg.
