The 12x units from this series are delivered between 1987 and 1988.
They are almost identical to A7 units except they had a telephone
booth and space for an itinerant serving trolley.
The A8 carriages are used on the City Express business trains but as these are soon replaced by the X2 trains, the extra equipment of the carriages becomes redundant and they are soon converted to A7 coaches.
NB: as these units are equipped with ASEA bogies, the exact registration is A8R. They also receive a brighter, higher standard interior compared with the other A7 units.
