The Anina II series represents a type of locomotive developed for the forestry rail network. The locomotives were engineered in order to pull heavy trains within forestry service areas.

The superheated steam locomotives of the 704 400 series were designed and built by the new locomotive factory in Resita, after the founding of Uzinele de Fier si Domeniile Resita (UDR).

The first locomotive from the series (704 401) was called PRINCIPELE CAROL.

The second locomotive from the series (704 402) was called PRINCIPESA ELENA. It worked until 1970.
