2011

The first unit from this series is modernized in 2011 by Atelierele CFR Grivita from a Bmee 21-80 passenger coach. Previously, Atelierele CFR Grivita had modernized DWA 21-80 coaches, which were classified under Series 21-70, with a total of 11x vehicles converted. The initial plan for this modernized unit was to classify it as 21-70 012 . However, significant differences were noted between the two modernization projects, leading to its classification in a new series: 21-96 001 during its first public presentation in 2011.

The modernized passenger coach featured initially a maximum operating speed of 200 km/h at the time of its introduction. A few years later, this speed is reduced to 160 km/h. Thus, it is re-classified as 21-76 001.

As of June 2014, this unit was still pending purchase by CFR Calatori.
