DB Cargo Deutschland places an order for 50x hybrid center cab locomotives* from Japan after completing a feasibility study regarding joint development. This order aims to replace 61x aging diesel locomotives, with an expected reduction in energy consumption by 30%, leading to an estimated annual savings of around 1 million liters of diesel fuel. The locomotives, designated as HDB 800, incorporate TüV Rheinland-certified Toshiba SCiB lithium-ion batteries. The lithium-ion batteries utilized in these locomotives can be charged externally, further contributing to their efficiency.

The production of the prototype locomotives is the responsibility of Talbot** in Aachen. DB Cargo’s workshop in Rostock will take over from there and produce the series product.

* Alongside the initial order, DB Cargo plans to rent an additional 50 locomotives.
** Talbot, a company that has emerged from the remnants of a former Bombardier workshop, has established a reputation for various innovative projects, including the development of an e-scooter and an advanced passenger train, as well as the assembly of safety trains for the Gotthard Tunnel.
