1965

These units had bodies identical to those of the Le.601 and were equipped with 78 second-class seats arranged in a 2+2 configuration. As with first-class rolling stock, they featured comfortable seat modules of 1,850 mm, housed in a lounge measuring 18,550 x 2,735 mm.

They were divided into two sub-series: the Le.780.001-013, equipped with bogies with block brakes and a maximum speed of 180 km/h, and the Le.780.014-019, equipped with bogies with disc brakes and a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

The first sub-series units were not fitted with air conditioning but included only a winter heating system and a summer ventilation system.

The second sub-series units were equipped with Marelli-Stone air conditioning systems.

In commercial service, they were rarely used at high speeds, with occasional deployments on the “Super-Rapido” Milan-Rome route, where they were used as first-class vehicles.
