1996

From the ongoing production of the ETR.460, the three trains 21, 27 and 28 are equipped for operation under 1.5 kV DC voltage, so that they could also travel to France. The trains were used on the Milan - Turin - Lyon route from the 1996 winter timetable. A changed gear ratio gave the trains a higher pulling force to make it easier to overcome the ramps of the Mont-Cenis railway, but reduced the maximum speed to 200 km/h.

Cross-border trips were stopped in 2003 and the transmission ratio was changed back so that they could reach their old maximum speed again.

NB1: ETR stands for ElettroTreno in Italian.
