1998

The 3x units are ordered in 1998.

Later that same year, a test train, the ETR.470 "Treno Zero", appeared in Slovenia, closely resembling the future units delivered two years later.

2000

Three electric multiple units, manufactured by the Italian factory FIAT Ferroviaria, are delivered to Slovenian Railways in 2000. These passenger sets feature a unique tilting system that allows them to adapt to the curvature of the railway line, enabling higher speeds through curves and reducing travel times. This tilting mechanism operates on a pendulum principle, earning the units the nickname "Pendolino".

Each multiple unit comprises three air-conditioned carriages, with the powered carriages designated as number 310 and the non-powered middle carriage marked as 316. The first carriage offers 30 seats in 1st class, while the total seating capacity in 2nd class amounts to 136 seats, including a buffet service in the middle carriage. In the 1st class, passengers benefit from a 220V socket for laptop usage, and all carriages are equipped with a wireless Wi-Fi network.

The tilting design allows these passenger sets to achieve speeds of up to 200 km/h; however, the maximum permitted speed on Slovenian lines is 160 km/h.

These trains regularly operate on the Ljubljana – Maribor / Spielfeld-Strass (Austria) route.

2005

March

The ETR.470 "Train Zero" returns to Slovenia for passenger trials, offering free promotional rides.

The goal was to persuade the Slovenian Railways to consider purchasing additional units. The original order included an option for four extra dual-system units, intended for routes to Munich and Zagreb, but this option was never exercised.

Due to its frequent presence in Slovenia and its nearly identical livery to the Class 310, some Slovenian railway enthusiasts humorously dubbed it "310 007/008". This nickname playfully suggests that, despite not officially belonging to Slovenia, the unit is practically the fourth member of the fleet, blending seamlessly with the existing three.
