The motorized units from this series developed by Alstom are shorter than the other M7 passenger coaches and consist of two small compartments. The technical components are located between the driver's cab and the front compartment, with an interconnecting corridor that is very narrow at the rear.

The design of the Bmx and BDx 86-96 & BDx 86-91 driving elements is inspired by the Bombardier Twindexx Vario.

The Bmx motorized unit is not strictly classified as a multiple unit under regulations, but rather as a locomotive that can only reach its nominal speed when accompanied by three cars to ensure effective braking.

Two trainsets with Bmx units can be coupled together; however, there is no information regarding the possibility of having two motorized coaches in the same trainset. This prevents the presence of a driving trailer (BDx 86-96 or BDx 86-91) with its multi-purpose compartment, although it can be replaced by a BD coach.

2024

December

The delivery of the M7 Bmx 86-96 motorized units is officially concluded at the end of 2024 with a ceremony at the Valenciennes factory. This is somewhat misleading as unit BMx 76113, which replaces unit BMx 76017 that was irreparably damaged during an accident before delivery, left the factory at a later date. Also, units BMx 76001 - 76006, initially used for test runs and to implement technical improvements and modifications, are yet to be updated to match the final version, with deliveries expected in the coming months.
