1936

After the first batch of "Chapelon first-type" locomotives 231 Nord 3.1171 - 3.1190, a second batch of twenty-eight locomotives, this time of new construction and based on the even more powerful "Chapelon second-type" design, was ordered and delivered between 1936 and 1937 - 1938.

Construction was shared among several manufacturers:
• Ateliers de Construction du Nord de la France at Blanc-Misseron built locomotives 3.1191 - 3.1198;
• Forges de la Marine et d’Homécourt produced locomotives 3.1111 - 3.1120;
• Compagnie de Fives-Lille built locomotives 3.1121 - 3.1130.

All locomotives of this second batch were delivered new-built and were originally fitted with the so-called “Nord-type” smokebox door, featuring a Y-shaped horizontal hinge and carrying the company monogram positioned at its center.
