The BB 9300 is a series of French electric locomotives built for the SNCF in the late 1960s and designed primarily for express passenger service under 1'500 V DC overhead power.

Developed as a refined derivative of the earlier BB 9200 class, the BB 9300 incorporated key technical improvements — most notably single-arm pantographs (type AM18B), longer ventilation louvres, and rheostatic brakes fitted as standard on all units. The driver’s cab also featured updated ergonomics and more standardized controls compared with its predecessors.

Built by Jeumont-Schneider, CEM and MTE, a total of 40 locomotives, registered BB-9301 to BB-9340, were delivered between 1967 and 1969.

These Bo'Bo' machines quickly became a mainstay on express and rapid passenger trains, particularly in the South-East and South-West of France, and even hauled prestigious services such as the Trans-Europe Express (TEE) Mistral in the early years of operation.

With a maximum speed of 160 km/h and a continuous power rating around 3 850 kW, the BB 9300 combined reliable performance with versatility on key inter-city corridors.

By the late 2000s, the class experienced a marked decline in regular service due to the introduction of modern multiple-unit trains and newer locomotives. The last BB 9300 units were officially retired in 2014.
