1987

In order to modernize the fleet of international corridor cars and accompany the I6 compartment cars (Eurofima), the SNCB-NMBS ordered these vehicles utilizing the UIC-Z standard, which is adopted by many countries. The UIC-Z standard is divided into two parts: UIC-Z1 for air-conditioned cars and UIC-Z2 for non-air-conditioned cars.

The SNCB-NMBS ordered both versions in second class and only the non-air-conditioned version in first class, as it already operates the I6 cars used in first class for international compositions. The body and the underframe used for the three versions were identical. These vehicles closely resemble Eurofima cars, with the most noticeable difference compared to the I6 cars being the absence of skirts to conceal the undercarriage.

The following 2nd class coaches are ordered:
- 45 non-air-conditioned coaches: 12701 - 12745
- 35 air-conditioned coaches: 12746 - 12780
