2010

The journey of the Transmontana locomotive type began with its first unit delivered to Romanian railways in 2010, unit 91 53 0480 001-3. This innovative locomotive is notable for its asynchronous traction motors and draws inspiration from the Phoenix locomotives, boasting six axles and an impressive 6 mW rated power. The only components of the Transmontana that still refer to the original EA locomotives of the Romanian railways on which its concept is based, are the chassis and some parts of the bogies.

The design underwent several iterations: the initial version, V1, was followed by V2, which featured an updated front for enhanced crashworthiness, necessitating modifications to the locomotive's length and cabin design (starting with LEMA 017 acquired by DB Cargo Romania and first revealed during Innotrans 2014), and the V3 version tailored for Scandinavian operations for the Green Cargo group, incorporating advanced ETCS technology and design enhancements to perform efficiently in colder climates.

By 2014, a total of sixteen locomotives were constructed for operators in Romania and Hungary, showcasing the model's adaptability.
