1939

The first 21x units from this series are delivered in 1939. Built at Nicolae Malaxa factory for the Romanian Railways, they are equipped with 220 hp diesel engines built under Ganz license (later, during modernisation, these will be replaced by Maybach 250 hp engines).

Suitable for a maximum speed of 110 Km/h, these are initially used as long-distance fast trains and have special technical characteristics and interior design: driving positions at both ends, electropneumatic gearbox, air conditioning, armchairs and tables, small luggage storage compartment, living room, noble wood interior ornaments etc. They are capable of running in multiple units.

1941-1945

During the Second World War, unit n° 758 is transferred to Russian Railways.

In 1949 it is adapted for the Russian gauge (1524 mm) and is assigned to Vilnius Depot.

It ran until 1989, after which it entered the "Technical Museum of the St. Petersburg Railways" as a piece of railway history.

1948

After the nationalisation of the Malaxa factory in 1948, 1x unit (registration n° 773) is built for officials and 16x units (registration n° 774 - 789) for regular passenger services.

1951

The last 4x units of the series (registration n° 790 - 793) are delivered between 1951 and 1953 and are intended for use by the authorities.

2007

From 2007, these units are modernised by MARUB Brasov and the Maybach engines are replaced by Volvo Turbo engines, 162 Kw for the A1 (max. speed 80 km/h) version and 324 Kw for the A2 (max. speed 100 km/h) version.
