1962

The first 2 prototypes are delivered. They are very similar to E 11 locomotives with the following differences:
- a modified gear ratio and higher tractive effort for freight and slow passenger trains;
- different (simpler) controls.

There are no visible external differences between E 42 units and E 11 units.
