The TEE "Étoile du Nord" ("Northern Star") glides into Roosendaal
on its way to Amsterdam.
The "Étoile du Nord" ("Northern Star") service was first introduced
in 1924 as a fast train between Paris and Brussels. In 1927 it was
extended to Amsterdam. During World War II, from 1939 to 1946, the
service was interrupted. In 1957 it became a first-class-only Trans
Europ Express (TEE), in June 1984 it was downgraded to a two-class
InterCity train before being reclassified as one of the inaugural
EuroCity trains 3 years later. On June 2nd, 1996, the service is
replaced by a Thalys service.
