ARWE Modelltechnik

ARWE Modelltechnik was a German manufacturer specializing in model railway electronics, accessories and limited-production H0 locomotives. Based in Wangen im Allgäu, Germany, the company had been active since 1974, initially focusing on electronic regulation and control technology. Its range included block-control systems, electronic driving controllers, acceleration and braking modules, timetable computers and sound systems for model railway layouts.

In 1982, ARWE expanded its programme to include exclusive 1:87 scale locomotives, produced in small, limited series. These models were characterized by detailed construction, excellent running characteristics, engraved individual serial numbers and certificates. ARWE cooperated with established manufacturers rather than producing every component itself: its locomotives used HAG or Märklin motors, while the finely detailed brass model of the BLS Ae 6/8 No. 205 was manufactured in Switzerland by Swimo exclusively for ARWE. Models such as the SBB Re 4/4 II TEE and Re 6/6 were also offered, with features including electronic locomotive whistles integrated into the models.

The company later operated as ARWE-Modelltechnik Christel Braun e.K. and had close connections with the German model railway industry, particularly Noch and Vau-Pe.

The company disappeared from the German commercial register in 2004, bringing to an end a relatively little-known but interesting manufacturer whose products combined specialist electronics with high-quality, small-series model railway production.
