Sachsen Modelle

Sachsenmodelle (often stylized as Sachsen Modelle) was a renowned German manufacturer based in Zittau, Saxony, that specialized in high-fidelity rolling stock, primarily in the H0 (1:87) scale. Emerging from the legacy of the East German manufacturer Schicht, the company became a definitive source for the "Classic" passenger and freight cars of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) and other Central and Eastern European administrations like the PKP, ČSD, and MÁV. During the 1990s, they were widely regarded as the "car specialists" of the industry, bridging the gap between mass-produced toys and high-end collector models by offering intricate detailing and historically accurate liveries for international express trains.

In 2001, following financial difficulties, Sachsenmodelle was acquired by Tillig Modellbahnen, which integrated the brand's extensive tooling into its own catalog to establish a robust H0 division alongside its world-leading TT scale products. While no longer an independent company, the Sachsenmodelle "DNA" remains a cornerstone of the modern European hobby; many of its iconic molds—such as the Halberstadt coaches and specialized chemical tank wagons—are still produced by Tillig today. For collectors, the original Sachsenmodelle releases remain highly prized for their role in elevating Eastern European railway modeling to a museum-quality standard that rivaled Western giants like Roco and Fleischmann.
