Freight wagons

The marking shall be applied on the wagon bodywork in the following manner:



where:
- vv: two digits interoperability code;
- cc: two digits registering country code (numerical);
- xxxx: four digits standard numerical marking of wagons;
- yyy: three digits order number;
- z: check digit;
- AAA: usually marked as:
----- RIV: suitable for international rail traffic and without restrictions on interoperability according to the International Wagon Regulations (Regolamento Internazionale Veicoli);
----- TEN: approved according to the TSI - Technical Specification for Interoperability - for the Trans-European Network;
- CC: registering Country Code (alphabetical);
- VKM: Vehicle Keeper Marking, an alphabetic code, consisting of 2 to 5 letters, a representation of the full name or abbreviation of the vehicle keeper, if possible in a recognisable manner;
- D: single freight wagon serial letter / articulated and multiple freight wagons serial letter;
- eee: single freight wagon index letter(s) / articulated and multiple freight wagons index letter(s).


Coaches and hauled passenger stock

The marking shall be applied to each sidewall of the vehicle in the following manner:



where:
- vv: two digits international traffic ability code;
- cc: two digits registering country code (numerical);
- xx: two digits code for hauled passenger stock type;
- uu: two digits code for the general characteristics of the hauled passenger stock;
- yyy: three digits order number;
- z: check digit;
- CC: registering Country Code (alphabetical);
- VKM: Vehicle Keeper Marking, an alphabetic code, consisting of 2 to 5 letters, a representation of the full name or abbreviation of the vehicle keeper, if possible in a recognisable manner;
- D: passenger coach serial letter(s);
- eee: passenger coach index letter(s).


Locomotives, power cars and special vehicles

The marking shall be applied to each sidewall of the tractive stock in the following manner:
