The 482 class is almost identical to the German 185 class, being part of the first generation of the multipurpose platform Traxx from Bombardier, the F140 C1. However, this locomotives is used for more than just freight services as it also substitutes from time to time for the Re 460 in passenger service. The Re 482 units running in Switzerland have four pantographs on the roof in order to adhere to the narrower SBB clearance gauge and the wider zig-zag pattern of the catenary in other European countries. You can thus see the SBB's Re 482 far beyond the borders of Switzerland.
