2011

Deutsche Bahn and Bombardier Transportation sign a framework agreement in April for the delivery of 200 multi-engine drive diesel locomotives of this type. The contract, worth around 600 million Euros, spans nine years.
Concurrently, DB Regio orders the first 20 locomotives for passenger transport.

2013

Test runs are conducted on the Südostbayernbahn network around Mühldorf station and in Allgäu.
On December 13th, the Federal Railway Authority grants series approval for Bombardier Traxx locomotives of the Br 245 series.

2014

In March, the investment company Paribus-DIF Netz-West-Lokomotiven, as the first private customer, orders 15 locomotives. These are leased by the Landesweiten Verkehrsservicegesellschaft Schleswig-Holstein for use on the Marschbahn.
The Br 245 series is initially tested by DB Regio Allgäu-Schwaben starting in June. It officially enters service following the timetable change on December 14th.

2015

The first pre-series locomotives, 245 001–003, show some deviations from the series design.
DB Fernverkehr orders seven more Br 245 locomotives on June 10th. These are intended to replace the Br 218 series for the Sylt Shuttle by the end of the year.
The 245 201 is delivered in January and undergoes trial runs on the Marschbahn from February 16th to 18th. By the end of the year, the remaining units are produced and replace previous locomotive types.

2016

The last of the previously ordered locomotives is delivered in July.
During the summer, Bombardier instructs operators to constantly monitor the transformer temperature due to overheating issues.
In March, locomotive 245 204 experiences smoke development and fires.
Problems persist with the Br 218 series, leading to their increased usage again starting in 2018.

2017

Throughout the year and into 2018, the engines of the locomotives from Paribus, Südostbayernbahn, and DB Regio Allgäu-Schwaben are overhauled at Bombardier.
DB Fernverkehr places an order for five more Br 245 locomotives in October, intended as towing locomotives for the Intercity-Express. However, this order is later canceled due to the locomotives not being equipped with ETCS.

2019

On July 4th, an immediate decommissioning of the Br 245 series locomotives is announced after the detection of carcinogenic substances during a fire. However, this decision is revoked the very next day after additional investigations determine no extra precautions are needed during maintenance.
