The locomotive series 131 (Prairie) was quite an outstanding accomplishment, being engineered and constructed by UDR experts accompanied by the people from CFR.

The 67 units built between 1939 and 1942 were aimed at pulling both freight and passenger trains, on secondary railroads, mainly in the Banat area.
