The 142 Series was built after the Austrian 241 model with some
improvements.
These Berkshire-type locomotives have been the biggest and most
powerful in the CFR fleet, engineered to pull heavy passenger and
freight trains on railways with high declivities (they were able to
pull 700 tons trains at speeds of 110 km/h).
A total of 37 units were manufactured between 1937 and 1939.
