1953

The Danish manufacturer Pedershåb Maskinfabrik of Brønderslev built a total of six rail tractors of the RBE type in the early 1950s: four for the Danish Air Force and two for the Danske Statsbaner (DSB). The two locomotives delivered to DSB were numbered 56 (factory number 456/1953) and 57 (factory number 457/1953) and entered service in 1953. These were light petrol-fueled shunting tractors designed for smaller switching duties on branch lines and in yard areas.

DSB 56 worked predominantly at the Centralværkstedet in Aarhus until its retirement in 1973, and was scrapped in 1977.

DSB 57 had a much longer operational life, serving at various workshops including Nyborg, Vesterbro, København, Vigerslev, Glostrup, and others between 1953 and 1990. During the mid-1970s, this locomotive even appeared as a prop in the Danish film "Die Olsenbande stellt die Weichen".

2001

After withdrawal from service, it sat derelict at Odense until being restored beginning in 2001.

Following extensive restoration, DSB 57 became part of the collection at the Danmarks Jernbanemuseum (Danish Railway Museum) in Odense, where it is preserved as an example of mid-20th-century Danish shunting motive power.
