2x units from the series (BB-12131 and BB-12141) are sent to Romania in 1963 to be tested by the
Romanian State Railways (CFR) on the new electrified Predeal to Brasov line. These units are tested alongside
Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) Rb 1001 and 1002 electric locomotives and 2 other prototypes from
Lokomotivbau-Elektrotechnische Werke (LEW) and
Škoda Works.
On June 9th, 1963, locomotive BB-12141 pulled the first train with electric traction from Brasov towards Predeal during a ceremony in the presence of Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, the first secretary of the Romanian Communist Party at the time.
After trials ended, the
Romanian State Railways (CFR) chose the Rb electric locomotive built by
Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) as the basis for the first Romanian electric locomotive:
060-EA.
