The "Erlebnis Modellbahn" is one of the leading model railway
exhibitions in Germany, held annually at the Dresden exhibition
halls. Organized by the Model Railway Club "Theodor Kunz" Pirna
(MEC Pirna), the event attracts enthusiasts, families, and industry
professionals alike, offering a fascinating insight into the world
of model railways.
With an exhibition space of approximately 13,000 square meters,
visitors can explore around 50 impressive model railway layouts,
ranging from small home layouts to large-scale systems. The
exhibition covers various gauge sizes, including N, H0, TT, and
even II, ensuring a diverse and captivating experience for all
railway enthusiasts. A particular focus is often placed on
narrow-gauge railways, with representations of different regions,
including Saxony, the Harz region, and even international
themes.
One of the highlights of the event is the Dresden Live Steam
Meeting, where steam-powered model trains in 5-inch gauge operate
on a specially built track. Children and adults alike can enjoy
train rides and daily locomotive parades, creating a truly
immersive railway experience.
The exhibition also serves as a marketplace, bringing together over
70 manufacturers, including both major brands and small-series
producers, who present and sell their latest products. Attendees
can discover new releases, purchase model railway items, and
interact directly with industry experts.
Beyond model railways, the event is designed as a family-friendly
experience, offering hands-on activities for children, including a
play area, face painting, and craft workshops. Special amenities,
such as a nursing and baby-changing room, ensure a comfortable
visit for families with young children.
For visitors’ convenience, the venue offers catering services and
ample parking. However, guests are encouraged to use public
transport, including trains, buses, and trams, for an eco-friendly
journey to the event.
