After the introduction of the UIC numbering by RENFE in 1971, the
ten locomotives of the 2000T series were designated as 352-001 to
352-010, with the old number additionally retained on the front.
Each locomotive is equipped with two turbocharged Maybach-MD-650
diesel engines, each with 1,200 hp, whose cooling is automatically
regulated via side louvres and which have electric preheating
systems. The fuel supply is provided by three interconnected tanks
with a total capacity of 1,200 liters.
The drive is transmitted via elastic couplings, cardan shafts, and
a hydraulic Mekydro-K-104 gearbox with automatic gear shifting at
30, 45, and 75 km/h. The power supply for air conditioning,
lighting, and auxiliary operations is provided by two
motor-generator sets with Daimler-Benz six-cylinder engines and
three-phase generators.
The locomotives have a single aerodynamic driver's cab on the left
side, a Scharfenberg coupling for Talgo trains at the rear, and
only an emergency and shunting coupling at the front. Between 1985
and 1986, the front windows were renewed for safety reasons, and in
1986, some units received an increased maximum speed of 160 km/h.
