Diesel multiple units Class 641 "S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland" of DB AG

The Alstom Coradia A TER diesel multiple units were developed in the late 1990s as a joint project by DB and SNCF; 40 vehicles were delivered to DB Regio.

They were and are in operation in several regions: initially in Baden-Württemberg (Hochrhein) and Thuringia, and from 2013 also in Upper Franconia (Hof area). Since 2016, modernized vehicles have been operating in Saxony between Leipzig and Geithain.

From 2019, additional multiple units were put into service in the Elster-Geiseltal network; since December 2024, the line has been extended to Halle (Saale) Hbf and is part of the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.
